Emotional Problem Solving is essentially a talking therapy, designed by its founder, Lavinia Dowling, a qualified psychiatric nurse, which uses a combination of tools such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Counselling as well as EPS to give the client the best opportunity to combat their mental ill health. This is because Lavinia recognized that all clients suffering with mental ill health and illness also were suffering from low self esteem, and that there was no one tool that improved self-esteem and ultimately the mental health recovery.
Furthermore, Lavinia found that the relationship between the therapist and client was the top most crucial way forward with both willing to work in partnership as the “expert” professional with the “expert” client.
By helping them regain their confidence and self-esteem, clients felt more able to deal with their issues affecting their mental health, often without the need for anti-depressants and/or anxiolytics.
Many clients relished the challenge of setting their own agenda with goals and aspirations and, as their confidence grew, so too did their resilience.
Unlike many therapies, the sessions were not as many as other clinically prescribed talking therapies. Many clients come to Lavinia having tried different therapies, both NHS and private, feeling extremely vulnerable and losing all hope there is no possible recovery and within a few short sessions walk away with improved mental health recovery with many beginning the weaning off prescribed medication process.
“No words can say how thankful we are for your amazing help, getting our handsome Joe back! It wouldn’t have happened without you. You truly are an amazing person – so understanding and knowledgeable of Mental Health. You are second to none! “
“Just had my first assessment and I cannot tell you the relief I felt Someone listened to me (and my child). They listened and heard what I was and wasn’t saying. They asked the ‘right’ questions that enabled me to give the answers that I needed (and struggled) to describe. Thoroughly recommend The M Word! I came out of the session to Lavinia and cried with relief.”
“Thank you for everything you have done for me. You have taught me so much + I will be forever greatful.”
